…to be held on the 6th November 2013 in Düsseldorf.
Fascinating choices! Perhaps there is a period frame for the Rijksmuseum Vermeer “Lady in Blue Writing a Letter” there? They have been looking for one for quite some time now.
There are some Dutch ripple frames (and a couple of Dutch & Flemish plain ebonized frames),but haven’t checked her for size – also don’t know that I’d put her in black… Wonder what they’re looking for?
I believe black ebony, but I actually don’t mind her current Rococo frame.
A lot of Netherlandish works were originally framed not only in Dutch Auricular frames but in Baroque French patterns, imported from their next-door neighbour as the latest thing in interior decoration; the colouring suits her too, more than the cold combination of black with all her blues, so I would go along with you there…
Lynn, thank you so much for the interesting information!
Hi, Oksana –
Thank you for commenting; I just thought that there are such beautiful frames in this catalogue that people might be interested to see it, who might not otherwise have come across it.
I should hasten to add that I have no commercial link of any sort with the sale; this is a purely a matter of interest and history…
Hope that you’re well and flourishing – Lynn
